ECO Window Systems was founded in 2008 by Frank Mata and has stayed rooted in Medley, an industrial pocket of northwest Miami-Dade. The company runs a 150,000 square foot frame plant plus a separate 180,000 square foot glass operation, so both the aluminum extrusion work and the laminated impact glass come together under ECO's own roof. One thing to understand before you research the brand: ECO sells only through dealers and contractors. The ECO Window Systems website lists roughly 550 dealers, most of them in Florida, and publishes no prices, no brochures, and no direct purchase path. Spec sheets and technical documents live behind a dealer portal. That is normal for a builder-channel manufacturer, but it means your installer does the navigating; this review pulls the numbers from the state approval documents so you do not have to.

Two Generations: Eco-Guard and Eco-Novo

ECO's catalog splits into two distinct product generations, and quotes get confusing fast if you treat the names as interchangeable.

Eco-Guard is the original generation and the trade name on ECO's laminated impact glass: single hungs (Series 50, 100, 150), horizontal rollers (60, 200, 250), fixed windows (70, 300, 350), casements and awnings (500, 550, 560), plus the French doors, sliders, bi-fold, pivot, and garage doors numbered from 600 through 1500. These are the products on ECO's public website, approved under long-running Florida approval numbers such as FL40096, FL40097, FL32389, FL39630, and FL25674.

Eco-Novo is the newer generation, certified from 2024 through 2026 under a fresh block of approvals (FL47213 through FL47225, plus FL47490 for the new garage doors). It covers the Series 175 single hung, 275 roller, 375 fixed, 585 awning, 595 fixed casement, 675 French door, 775 sliding glass door, and the 870/875 sectional garage doors. Eco-Novo is what the dealer channel orders today for those opening types. It is not a renaming of Eco-Guard: the two generations are separately engineered and separately certified products, and a permit package will list one or the other.

The Eco-Novo flagship shows how far the engineering reaches. In our approval database, cross-checked against the FL47220 installation drawing, the Eco-Novo Series 775 sliding glass door charts run to an 8-panel, 4-track configuration at 480 inches wide by 120 inches tall: a 40-foot by 10-foot moving glass wall, rated at +55/-60 psf with both large and small missile impact certification under the 2023 Florida Building Code, High Velocity Hurricane Zone included.   • Whole-home aluminum packages on a working budget. When the goal is code-compliant impact protection on 15 openings and the budget will not stretch to a premium brand, ECO covers every opening type from one catalog without a weak spot in the approval paperwork.
  • Wide roller and slider openings. The 144-inch Series 250 roller and the multi-slide family solve openings that force compromises in other value-tier catalogs.
  • Impact garage doors. ECO is one of the few sources for an impact-rated aluminum garage door with glass, and it lets us protect the largest opening on the house within the same manufacturer package.
  • Multi-family and rental properties. Repeatable units, straightforward hardware, and local parts supply make ECO a practical fleet choice for duplexes, small condo buildings, and investor portfolios.
  • Schedule-sensitive jobs. Frames and glass both come out of Medley. When a hurricane season deadline is real, local production shortens the distance between a signed contract and an installed impact window.

The honest limitations, because every brand has them: frames come in white or bronze only, so a black-frame or custom-color project shops elsewhere. Standard glass is PVB laminate, with the stiffer SGP interlayer offered on select lines rather than across the catalog. ECO's residential warranty runs 5 years on PVB laminated glass, 10 years on SGP glass, 3 years on the powder-coat finish, and 1 year on hardware; it is not transferable, and it excludes corrosion driven by coastal salt spray. On direct oceanfront work we usually steer the spec toward a package built for that exposure, and on every ECO job we walk the owner through what the warranty does and does not cover before contract.

Energy Performance: The Certified-Data Situation

Here is the plain truth a review owes you: there are no published, certified U-factor, SHGC, or visible transmittance figures for ECO's aluminum window lines. A handful of Eco-Guard series carry NFRC certification labels, but the figures are not retrievable from public directories, and the newer Eco-Novo series do not appear there yet. We will not estimate numbers a certification body has not published, and you should be skeptical of any seller who quotes precise energy ratings for these lines.

What you can control is the glass package, and that is where most of the thermal performance in an aluminum impact window lives anyway. ECO offers Low-E coatings, insulated laminated glass with argon fill on select series, and gray, bronze, green, and Azuria tints. On west-facing elevations in South Florida we push for Low-E and consider the insulated laminated upgrade; on shaded or north-facing openings the standard laminate is often the sensible spend. One number that does not depend on a ratings label: Florida Statute 627.0629 requires residential insurers to file premium discounts for windstorm mitigation. Protecting every opening with impact-rated products is what triggers the wind mitigation credit, and ECO's approvals qualify the same way a premium brand's do.

ECO vs. the Competition

Tier labels describe coverage and price position, not build honesty; ECO's approvals sit in the same state database as everyone else's. Here is how we frame the choice against the brands we quote most often:

  • ECO vs. PGT WinGuard: PGT carries broader color options, deeper published performance data, and a longer track record, at a higher price per opening. When the project needs color flexibility or documented energy figures, PGT earns the difference. When it needs maximum protection per dollar across many openings, ECO does.
  • ECO vs. CGI: CGI's Sentinel and Estate lines were a premium Miami-Dade staple for decades before the brand was folded into PGT's operations.
