How We Evaluate Manufacturers
We install products from every major manufacturer in the Florida impact window market. Our recommendations are based on what we see across thousands of installations: product quality over time, warranty responsiveness, delivery reliability, how products perform in real hurricanes, and how they hold up in Florida's salt air and UV exposure.
This guide ranks the six manufacturers that supply the vast majority of residential impact windows in Florida. The "best" manufacturer for your project depends on your specific situation: your wind zone (HVHZ vs. WBDR), your budget, your opening sizes and types, your delivery timeline, and whether you prioritize brand recognition, features-per-dollar, or architectural capability.
The Six Manufacturers
1. PGT Custom Windows & Doors (MITER Brands)
The category creator. PGT invented the residential impact window after Hurricane Andrew (1992), launching WinGuard in 1996 as the first complete suite of impact-resistant windows and doors. Revenue peaked at $1.50 billion in 2023 before PGT was taken private by MITER Brands (Koch Equity Development) for $3.1 billion.

|---|---|
| Headquarters | Venice, Florida |
| Key lines | WinGuard Aluminum, WinGuard Vinyl, PGT Sparta |
| Max DP | +90/-130 PSF (WinGuard Aluminum architectural) |
| HVHZ coverage | Most Miami-Dade NOA certifications in the industry |
| Frame materials | Aluminum, vinyl |
| Lead time | 10-12 weeks |
| Price tier | Mid-to-premium (~20% above ES Windows) |
Strengths: Broadest product selection for complex homes. Strongest brand recognition at resale. Over 3 million units installed with no reported impact failures. Proprietary Diamond Glass (nearly half the weight of standard impact glass). Tiered dealer program with training and support.
Limitations: 20% price premium over ES Windows for comparable specs. Low-E and premium finishes are upcharges (not included standard). Lead times of 10-12 weeks are the longest among major manufacturers. WinGuard Vinyl maxes at DP +65/-70.
Best for: Complex homes needing many window types under one product approval. Homeowners who plan to sell within 5-10 years and value brand recognition. Projects requiring the highest residential aluminum DP ratings.

2. ES Windows / Tecnoglass (NYSE: TGLS)
The value disruptor. Founded in 1984 in Barranquilla, Colombia (originally as EnergÃa Solar for solar water heaters), Tecnoglass became the #1 selling manufacturer of hurricane windows in Florida by volume around 2021-2022. They captured massive market share from PGT during COVID-era supply chain disruptions by maintaining 5-6 week delivery when competitors faced 6-8 month delays. FY2025 revenue: $983.6 million.
| Spec | Detail |
|---|---|
| Headquarters | Miami, FL (relocated from Barranquilla, 2023) |
| Key lines | Elite, Prestige, Commercial |
| Max DP | +80/-80 (Elite), +80/-90 (Prestige), +100/-140 (Commercial) |
| HVHZ coverage | Broad Miami-Dade NOA coverage |
| Frame materials | Aluminum (vinyl launched late 2023, still ramping) |
| Lead time | 5-6 weeks |
| Price tier | Budget-value (~20% below PGT) |
Strengths: The best features-per-dollar in the market. Low-E coating, Kynar/Dynar premium finishes, heat-strengthened glass, and stainless steel hardware are all included standard at no upcharge. PGT charges 10-15% extra for equivalent options. 5-6 week delivery is the fastest in the industry. Prestige line includes the ES-8000T Jumbo Fixed Window (7' x 15', the largest single-pane impact window available) and the ES-FX3050 Frameless Butt Glass system.
Limitations: Narrower product range than PGT (fewer architectural/custom shapes). Vinyl line launched November 2023 is still maturing (management characterized it as "a business we didn't know"). Shorter glass warranty (3 years on stress cracks vs. PGT's 1 year, but PGT has 10 years on laminated glass itself). NYSE-listed parent provides financial transparency but subject to tariff impacts (Section 232 tariffs prompted price increases on May 2026 orders).
Best for: Budget-conscious homeowners who want premium features without premium pricing. Projects where delivery speed matters (hurricane season deadlines). Homes requiring the largest available glass panels (Prestige line).
3. ECO Window Systems
The budget leader. Founded 2008 in Medley, Florida. Was briefly part of PGT/MITER (acquired 2021-2023) before being divested back to original founder Frank E. Mata in September 2024. Now fully independent.
| Spec | Detail |
|---|---|
| Headquarters | Medley, FL (Miami-Dade County) |
| Key lines | Full catalog: Series 50-1500 (windows + doors) |
| Max DP | +105/-115 PSF (Series 760 SGD) |
| HVHZ coverage | Full catalog Miami-Dade approved |
| Frame materials | Aluminum exclusively |
| Lead time | 4-8 weeks |
| Price tier | Budget (most affordable major manufacturer) |
Strengths: Lowest price point among manufacturers with full Miami-Dade NOA coverage. Complete product catalog from single-hung through pivot doors and glass railings. Series 950 French door has 4-point active / 2-point inactive multipoint locking (the strongest French door lock system on the market). Local Miami manufacturing means fast delivery and responsive service for South Florida projects.
Limitations: Aluminum only (no vinyl option). Finishes are standard grade (premium coatings available but not standard). Hardware is standard (stainless upgrade available but not default). Brand recognition is lower than PGT, which may affect resale perception.
Best for: Rental and investment properties. Multi-family projects. Budget-conscious homeowners who prioritize protection per dollar over premium features. Miami-Dade projects needing full NOA compliance at the lowest cost.
4. WinDoor (MITER Brands)
The luxury tier. WinDoor operates from a 320,000 sq ft facility in Orlando and is positioned as "the gold standard in the luxury high-rise market." Their clientele includes Ritz Carlton, Walt Disney World Resorts, Marriott International, and the Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center.
| Spec | Detail |
|---|---|
| Headquarters | Orlando, FL |
| Key lines | 8100 SGD, 9000 Series (thermally broken), Estate |
| Max DP | +125/-150 PSF (8100 SGD), +110/-195 PSF (Estate casement) |
| HVHZ coverage | Full Miami-Dade NOA |
| Frame materials | Aluminum, thermally broken aluminum |
| Lead time | 12-16 weeks |
| Price tier | Premium/luxury (most expensive) |
Strengths: Highest design pressure ratings in the residential market. 8100 SGD handles panels up to 5' x 12' (the largest certified sliding glass door panels in the industry) with up to 5 tracks, pocketing and non-pocketing, and 90/135-degree corner configurations. 9000 Series I-Strut thermally broken technology provides energy performance competitive with vinyl at aluminum strength levels. Estate line with ogee glazing beads and stainless steel package for architect-specified projects.
Limitations: Most expensive option in the market. Longest lead times (12-16 weeks). Product range is focused on sliding doors, large openings, and premium configurations; less comprehensive for standard residential single-hung and casement needs.
Best for: Luxury waterfront homes. High-rise condominiums. Architect-specified projects requiring extreme DP ratings or oversized panels. Homes where the door is a design statement, not just a building component.
5. CWS / Custom Window Systems (Pella Corporation)
The national brand's Florida platform. CWS was founded in 1986 in Ocala, FL and acquired by Pella Corporation in 2019. Pella subsequently acquired Lawson Industries (2023), absorbing Lawson's 60+ year Florida aluminum expertise. The Lawson brand was retired September 2024 with all products transferred to CWS.
| Spec | Detail |
|---|---|
| Headquarters | Ocala, FL |
| Key lines | Hurricane Guard (aluminum), StormStrong (vinyl) |
| Max DP | +67.5/-100 (Hurricane Guard aluminum) |
| HVHZ coverage | Hurricane Guard aluminum: yes. StormStrong vinyl: NOT HVHZ-approved (DP +/-50) |
| Frame materials | Aluminum, vinyl |
| Lead time | 6-10 weeks |
| Price tier | Mid-range |
Strengths: First Florida manufacturer to earn an ENERGY STAR rating from NFRC. Dual material offering (aluminum + vinyl) under one manufacturer. Pella's national infrastructure provides marketing, training, and financing resources that smaller manufacturers can't match. Lawson acquisition added aluminum expertise and an additional manufacturing facility in Medley.
Limitations: StormStrong Vinyl is explicitly not HVHZ-approved at DP +/-50. If you're in Miami-Dade or Broward, only the Hurricane Guard aluminum line qualifies. Narrower product range than PGT or ECO. Less brand recognition than PGT in the Florida market specifically (Pella is a strong national brand but less associated with impact windows).
Best for: Homeowners who trust the Pella name and want a dual-material option. Vinyl impact projects outside the HVHZ where StormStrong's DP +/-50 is adequate. Projects where ENERGY STAR certification is important.
6. Eastern Architectural Systems (EAS)
The vertical integrator. EAS is a division of Eastern Metal Supply, one of the largest aluminum distributors in the Southeast (headquartered in Fort Myers, FL). This gives EAS a structural material cost advantage that other manufacturers can't replicate. Founded 1982; rebranded after acquiring Flesher Windows in 2011. First window manufacturer to earn "Made in USA Certified" (99.9% US origin verified by supply chain audit).
| Spec | Detail |
|---|---|
| Headquarters | Fort Myers, FL |
| Key lines | Bertha (vinyl), 2000/3000 (aluminum), 6000-8100 (doors) |
| Max DP | +60/-60 (Bertha vinyl) |
| HVHZ coverage | Bertha: yes (HVHZ-approved vinyl). Aluminum: varies by series. |
| Frame materials | Aluminum, vinyl |
| Lead time | 4-8 weeks |
| Price tier | Budget-value |
Strengths: Bertha vinyl is one of only a handful of HVHZ-approved vinyl impact windows. It's the only vinyl impact window backed by the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval. 12% thicker thermal walls than most competitors. Fusion-welded 3-1/4" frame with double-pane argon fill standard. EAS also manufactures the best-selling accordion hurricane shutter on the Florida market, making them a one-stop source for both impact windows and shutters. Glass supplied by Cardinal Glass (#1 impact glass manufacturer in the US). Made in USA Certified.
Limitations: Lower brand recognition than PGT or ES Windows. Bertha vinyl DP +60/-60 is lower than PGT WinGuard Vinyl (+65/-70). Aluminum product range is more limited than ECO or PGT. Tiered door pricing (6000/7000/8100 series) requires careful product selection to match quality expectations.
Best for: HVHZ-approved vinyl at a competitive price point. Projects combining impact windows and accordion shutters from the same manufacturer. Homeowners who value Made in USA sourcing. Fort Myers/Southwest Florida projects (local manufacturing).

Corporate Ownership: What You Need to Know
The Florida impact window manufacturing landscape has consolidated significantly:
MITER Brands (Koch Equity Development) controls PGT, WinDoor, PGT Sparta, and formerly CGI. All CGI product lines except Sparta were discontinued October 31, 2025. ECO was divested. NewSouth was sold to Window Nation. Multiple plant closures across the MITER portfolio have consolidated manufacturing.
Tecnoglass (NYSE: TGLS) operates independently and is approaching $1 billion in annual revenue. Plans $350-400 million in US manufacturing investment to create a dual-platform model (Colombia + US) in response to Section 232 tariffs.
Pella Corporation (private) built its Florida platform through CWS acquisition (2019) and Lawson Industries acquisition (2023, brand retired 2024).
ECO Window Systems regained independence in September 2024 when MITER divested it back to the original founders.
EAS/Eastern Metal Supply (private) remains family-owned and regionally focused in Fort Myers.
What this means for homeowners: Fewer independent manufacturers means potentially less price competition at the manufacturing level. But Tecnoglass's aggressive growth and structural cost advantage (vertically integrated Colombian manufacturing) provides a competitive check that limits pricing power. Independent installers can source from any manufacturer, giving homeowners options across the full price and performance spectrum.
How to Choose
The best manufacturer for your project depends on a simple prioritization:
| Your Priority | Best Choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Lowest cost | ECO | Most affordable across the catalog |
| Best value (features/dollar) | ES Windows | Premium features standard at 20% below PGT |
| Broadest selection | PGT | More product types, sizes, and configurations than anyone |
| Fastest delivery | ES Windows (5-6 wk) or ECO/EAS (4-8 wk) | PGT and WinDoor are 10-16 weeks |
| Highest DP / luxury | WinDoor | +125/-150 SGD, 12 ft panels, architect-grade |
| Best vinyl (HVHZ) | PGT WinGuard Vinyl (+65/-70) or EAS Bertha (+60/-60) | Only HVHZ-approved vinyl options |
| Brand recognition at resale | PGT | The name Florida buyers recognize |
| Made in USA | EAS | 99.9% US origin certified |
A note on our approach: We install from all six manufacturers and recommend based on each project's requirements. A home with 15 standard single-hung windows on a budget is a different recommendation than a waterfront custom home with 12-foot sliding glass walls. Your installer should explain why they're recommending a specific manufacturer for your project, not just which one.
