Overview

About the Hurricane Guard Series

Hurricane Guard is CWS's flagship impact line, and it is unusual in covering both aluminum and vinyl substrates under one name. The aluminum side runs on a Pella-era 7000-series platform with end-to-end HVHZ certification for Miami-Dade and Broward, while the vinyl side carries Florida statewide approvals plus selected HVHZ coverage. That breadth lets Armor Pro spec a whole house from one line, choosing aluminum where the design pressure or span demands it and vinyl where thermal performance and budget lead.

CWS builds these in Florida, which matters for two reasons: the line is engineered around the state's code rather than adapted to it, and CWS was an early mover on NFRC-rated, ENERGY STAR-qualified impact windows, so the storm rating does not come at the cost of the energy numbers. The catalog spans the full operation range, single-hung through hinged and sliding glass doors.

Hurricane Guard is the CWS line for HVHZ residential where a homeowner wants a Florida-built impact window with a real Miami-Dade NOA. For coastal non-HVHZ work that needs impact at a lower entry price, the StormStrong vinyl line covers it; for high design pressure without impact glass, Fortify is the non-impact aluminum option.

Frequently Asked Questions

The aluminum Hurricane Guard products carry current Miami-Dade NOAs and are HVHZ-eligible end to end, covering single-hung, slider, picture, casement, hinged patio door, and sliding glass door. The vinyl Hurricane Guard products carry Florida statewide approvals with more limited HVHZ coverage. For a Miami-Dade or Broward project we generally spec the aluminum side, and we confirm the exact approval against your opening size before ordering.

Hurricane Guard is unusual in offering both substrates under one name. Aluminum carries the higher design pressures and the full HVHZ approval set, so it's the choice where the span, the pressure, or the HVHZ code demands it. Vinyl runs cooler thermally and lands at a lower price, which suits non-HVHZ openings where budget and energy lead. We can mix both within one house, choosing per opening.

Impact windows use laminated glass with a tough interlayer that holds together when struck, so the opening stays sealed against wind and debris without shutters. On the aluminum Hurricane Guard line the flagship single-hung is rated to 67.5 psf positive and 100 psf negative design pressure, which is high-end performance even by HVHZ standards. The exact rating depends on the size and configuration, which we confirm on the quote.

Hurricane Guard spans the full residential range: single-hung, horizontal slider, picture, casement, and awning windows, plus hinged (French) patio doors and sliding glass doors. That breadth lets us spec a whole house impact package from one line. If you're weighing how different styles look on your elevation, you can preview options with our Window and Door Designer and Visualizer.

Yes. The same laminated, insulated glass packages that resist impact also cut outside noise and, with Low-E coatings, reduce solar heat gain. CWS was an early Florida mover on NFRC-rated, ENERGY STAR-qualified impact windows, so the storm rating doesn't have to come at the cost of the energy numbers. We confirm the glass package and its ratings when we build your quote.
