Its standout feature is wash-hinge hardware: the sash swings far enough that you can clean the exterior glass from inside the home. We install it on coastal Florida homes where you want airflow plus impact protection, commonly over kitchen sinks, in bathrooms, or high on a wall.
The wash-hinge hardware lets the top-hinged sash swing open far enough that the outside surface of the glass faces back toward the room, so you can clean the exterior glass while standing inside the house. That's a real advantage on upper-floor or hard-to-reach awning windows. It's the main thing that sets the 163E apart from the simpler CWS-652D awning in the same line.
Yes, the 163E is LMI (Large Missile Impact) rated for Florida coastal installations, with laminated impact glass built into the unit. It carries a design pressure of approximately +65/-67.5 psf, which describes the wind load it's engineered to withstand. The 163E is approved under Florida Product Approval FL7060, and we'll confirm the rating that applies to your opening and address at quote.
The 163E uses a 7/8-inch overall insulated unit: an outer 1/8-inch annealed or tempered lite, a 7/16-inch air space, then a 5/16-inch laminated layer bonded with a .090-inch DuPont PVB interlayer for impact protection. With that package it reaches a U-factor as low as 0.26 and a very low SHGC around 0.10, so it blocks a lot of Florida solar heat. The 163E comes in White (standard) or Bronze, plus dual-color options of Bronze/White and Black/White so the interior and exterior can differ. Glass tints include Low-E 270 (standard), Low-E 366, Low-E 340, gray-tinted, obscure, and tempered. It uses a fold-away crank and comes with a BetterVue screen as standard, and we'll match the finish and glass to your home when we quote.

For a Miami-Dade or Broward project we generally spec the aluminum side, and we confirm the exact approval against your opening size before ordering.
Hurricane Guard is unusual in offering both substrates under one name. Aluminum carries the higher design pressures and the full HVHZ approval set, so it's the choice where the span, the pressure, or the HVHZ code demands it. Vinyl runs cooler thermally and lands at a lower price, which suits non-HVHZ openings where budget and energy lead. We can mix both within one house, choosing per opening.
