Overview

About the Fortify Series

Fortify is CWS's answer to a specific Florida situation: a coastal address that needs high design-pressure performance and corrosion resistance, but where the code does not actually require impact glass. It is aluminum non-impact, launched in 2024 as a clean-sheet Pella-engineered line that carries forward the engineering of the former Lawson Industries platform, covering four product types in a 300-series scheme (the 310 single-hung, 320 slider, 330 picture window, and 380 sliding glass door).

The line sits between Comfort Shield (vinyl non-impact) and Hurricane Guard (impact) in the CWS hierarchy, and its trick is the 380 sliding glass door, which becomes HVHZ-eligible when paired with hurricane shutters. That lets a Wind-borne Debris Region project skip impact glass while still meeting the opening-protection requirement with a shutter. Armor Pro specs Fortify when a coastal project wants the corrosion package and high design pressures at a non-impact price, and moves to Hurricane Guard when the opening must carry impact glass on its own.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Fortify is aluminum non-impact, engineered for coastal addresses that need high design-pressure performance and corrosion resistance but where the code does not actually require impact glass. It is the step between Comfort Shield vinyl non-impact and the impact Hurricane Guard line. If your opening must carry impact glazing on its own, we'd move you to Hurricane Guard instead.

Only in a limited way. The 380 sliding glass door is HVHZ-eligible when it is paired with hurricane shutters, which satisfy the opening-protection requirement in place of impact glass. The Fortify windows are not HVHZ products. So in Miami-Dade or Broward, Fortify only works on a shuttered door application, and we confirm that path before specifying it.

Fortify launched in 2024 as a Pella-engineered line that carries forward the engineering of the former Lawson Industries aluminum platform, with the Miami-Dade approvals on the sliding door explicitly noted as revisions of the prior Lawson filings. For a homeowner that means a proven coastal aluminum design behind a current 2024 approval set, all serviced now through CWS. We can explain the lineage if you're comparing it to an older Lawson product.

Fortify covers four product types in a 300-series scheme: the 310 single-hung, 320 horizontal slider, 330 picture window, and 380 sliding glass door, in White or Bronze powder-coat aluminum. It does not include casement, awning, or hinged doors. We spec it when a coastal project wants the corrosion package and high design pressures at a non-impact price point.

Aluminum offers narrower frames with more glass and a corrosion-resistant powder-coat finish suited to salt-spray exposure, which is why Fortify is positioned as the coastal non-impact option over the inland vinyl Comfort Shield line. The tradeoff is that aluminum conducts more heat than vinyl, so the glass package does more of the energy work. We weigh both against your exposure and budget on the quote.
