Frequently Asked Questions

The Fortify 310 Flange is the new-construction frame variant of CWS's aluminum non-impact single-hung, built with a nail fin that fastens to the framing as the wall goes up. It's the version we use on new construction and additions rather than retrofits. If you're replacing a window in an existing concrete or block opening, the matching choice is the Fortify 310 Fin frame instead.

The 310 Flange builds from a minimum of 11 by 25 inches up to a maximum of 53.125 by 74.25 inches, covering small openings through tall single-hung sizes. Single-hung windows are usually taller than they are wide, which suits that envelope. We confirm the buildable size with CWS once we have your opening dimensions.

The 310 Flange is rated to a design pressure of +50/-70 psf, which is the wind load it is engineered to handle and the high-DP coastal performance the aluminum Fortify line is built for. That pressure rating is the main reason to choose this aluminum non-impact window for a coastal new-construction opening. We confirm the exact rating for your size at quote.

The 310 Flange carries a Florida Product Approval for coastal high-DP non-impact installations, but it is not impact rated and is not approved for the High Velocity Hurricane Zone in Miami-Dade or Broward. It's intended for coastal openings outside the HVHZ, or where shutters provide the opening protection. If you need an impact-rated single-hung, we install CWS's Hurricane Guard line instead and will confirm the right product for your jurisdiction at quote.

Yes. The 310 Flange uses a block-and-tackle balance system and has a removable vent sash, so the operable sash can be taken out for cleaning access. That makes it easier to clean the exterior glass on an upper-floor or hard-to-reach window. We can walk through how the sash removal works when we install your windows.

Installed price depends on the size of the window, the glass package, and the details of the opening, so we don't quote a flat number. Because the flange frame is a new-construction product, install cost also depends on how the window ties into the wall assembly. Armor Pro provides a free, no-obligation estimate after reviewing your project and openings.

No. Fortify is aluminum non-impact, engineered for coastal addresses that need high design-pressure performance and corrosion resistance but where the code does not actually require impact glass. It is the step between Comfort Shield vinyl non-impact and the impact Hurricane Guard line. If your opening must carry impact glazing on its own, we'd move you to Hurricane Guard instead.

Only in a limited way. The 380 sliding glass door is HVHZ-eligible when it is paired with hurricane shutters, which satisfy the opening-protection requirement in place of impact glass. The Fortify windows are not HVHZ products. So in Miami-Dade or Broward, Fortify only works on a shuttered door application, and we confirm that path before specifying it.

CWS (Custom Window Systems) is a Florida manufacturer founded in 1986 and headquartered in Ocala, with additional plants in Miami, Medley, and Jacksonville totaling more than 700,000 square feet. Because the line is engineered and built in Florida around the state's hurricane code, the products are designed for our climate rather than adapted to it. We install and service CWS products throughout South Florida.
