Frequently Asked Questions

The Fortify 310 Fin is the masonry/block-opening replacement variant of CWS's aluminum non-impact single-hung window, sized for retrofit into existing concrete or block walls common across Florida. The fin frame is the version we use when we're replacing a window in an existing block opening rather than building new. If your project is new construction, the matching choice is the Fortify 310 Flange (nail-fin) frame instead.

The Fortify 310 Fin builds from a minimum of 11 by 25 inches up to a maximum of 53.125 by 74.25 inches, so it covers small openings up through tall single-hung sizes. Single-hungs are typically taller than they are wide, which fits that envelope. We measure your existing block opening and confirm the buildable size with CWS before ordering.

The 310 Fin is rated to a design pressure of +50/-70 psf, which is the wind load it is engineered to withstand and the high-DP performance the aluminum Fortify line is built for. That coastal pressure rating is the main reason to choose aluminum non-impact over a lighter window. We confirm the exact rating for your size and opening at quote.

No, the 310 Fin is a non-impact aluminum single-hung and is not approved for the High Velocity Hurricane Zone in Miami-Dade or Broward. It is a high design-pressure window for coastal openings outside the HVHZ, or where shutters carry the opening protection. If you need an impact-rated single-hung, we install CWS's Hurricane Guard single-hungs instead and will confirm the right product for your address at quote.

The 310 Fin offers White (standard) or Bronze frames, and glass options including Low-E 270 (standard), Low-E 366, obscure Low-E insulating glass with argon, tempered, bronze-tinted, and gray-tinted. Grille choices are broad: flat 5/8-inch grilles-between-the-glass, raised pyramid with applied bars, 6-Lite and 9-Lite Prairie, Traditional, and Custom. Hardware comes in sweep lock or latch lock with spring in several colors, and we'll help you match the look to your home at quote.

Yes, the 310 Fin is built specifically for retrofit into existing concrete or block openings, which is exactly the situation in most older Florida block homes. Installed price depends on the size, glass package, grille pattern, and the condition of the existing opening, so we don't quote a flat number. Armor Pro provides a free, no-obligation estimate after measuring your openings.

No. Fortify is aluminum non-impact, engineered for coastal addresses that need high design-pressure performance and corrosion resistance but where the code does not actually require impact glass. It is the step between Comfort Shield vinyl non-impact and the impact Hurricane Guard line. If your opening must carry impact glazing on its own, we'd move you to Hurricane Guard instead.

Only in a limited way. The 380 sliding glass door is HVHZ-eligible when it is paired with hurricane shutters, which satisfy the opening-protection requirement in place of impact glass. The Fortify windows are not HVHZ products. So in Miami-Dade or Broward, Fortify only works on a shuttered door application, and we confirm that path before specifying it.

CWS (Custom Window Systems) is a Florida manufacturer founded in 1986 and headquartered in Ocala, with additional plants in Miami, Medley, and Jacksonville totaling more than 700,000 square feet. Because the line is engineered and built in Florida around the state's hurricane code, the products are designed for our climate rather than adapted to it. We install and service CWS products throughout South Florida.
