Frequently Asked Questions

The Lifestyle Double Hung is Pella's clad-wood mid-tier double-hung window, with both the upper and lower sashes independently operable so you can vent from the top, the bottom, or both. It is the one Lifestyle window style that also offers a separate Impact-Resistant configuration. We install it on South Florida residential projects, choosing the standard or impact version based on what your opening requires.

Yes. Unlike the rest of the Lifestyle line, the Double Hung is offered in a separate Impact-Resistant configuration listed under Florida Product Approval FL20349.R4, in addition to the standard non-impact version under FL10354.R11. The impact version is rated Large Missile Impact (LMI) for projects that require impact glazing outside the Miami-Dade and Broward HVHZ. We will confirm which version and approval fit your jurisdiction at quote.

The impact configuration uses a 1-inch insulating glass unit built with a laminated make-up: a 3/16-inch annealed lite bonded to a tempered tinted exterior lite over a Kuraray PVB interlayer, with tempered glass on the interior side. The PVB interlayer is what holds the glass together when struck, which is the core of impact resistance. We confirm the exact glass on your order matches the approval for your project.

The venting double-hung runs from 21 by 35 inches up to 48 by 84 inches, and the fixed version up to 59 by 73 inches, listed at a design pressure of +50/-50 psf. The impact-resistant configuration is tested to higher design pressures, with ratings documented up to +90/-90 psf depending on size. Because the required design pressure depends on your opening's size and exposure, we verify the rating at quote and order to match.

The Lifestyle Double Hung posts a U-factor in the 0.23 to 0.35 range and an SHGC from 0.20 to 0.58 depending on the glass package, with visible transmittance from 0.45 to 0.66. It is also very air-tight at 0.07 cfm/ft² air infiltration. We will help you choose the glass that best balances solar-heat control and natural light for your home.

Installed price depends on the size of each opening, whether you choose the standard or impact-resistant configuration, the glass package, the finish, and any opening prep, so there is no single price. The impact version generally costs more than the standard non-impact one because of the laminated glass and heavier construction. Contact Armor Pro for a free, no-obligation estimate and we will measure and quote your double-hung openings.

No. Lifestyle is Florida Product Approval listed for non-HVHZ residential and light-commercial work, but it does not carry the Miami-Dade NOA required inside the High Velocity Hurricane Zone. For a Miami-Dade or Broward project we move to HurricaneShield (vinyl) or Reserve Impact (clad-wood). Lifestyle is the right Pella line for inland and non-HVHZ addresses across most of the rest of the state.

Mostly not. Lifestyle is a non-impact clad-wood line, with one narrow exception: the Double-Hung is offered in a separate Impact-Resistant configuration (FL #20349) for projects outside the HVHZ that need impact glazing. Every other style in the line is standard non-impact glass. If your project needs impact protection across the board, we'd usually spec a true impact line rather than rely on the single Lifestyle impact option.

Pella Corporation is a family-owned national manufacturer headquartered in Pella, Iowa, founded in 1925 and now spanning more than 20 plants across the country. For the Florida hurricane market the important detail is that Pella's impact lines, HurricaneShield and Defender, are built in Ocala, Florida by Pella's CWS subsidiary, so the storm products are made in-state rather than shipped in. We install and service Pella across South Florida and handle the order, permit, and installation regardless of which plant a given product comes from.
