Frequently Asked Questions

The HR4010A is PGT's Scout value-tier non-impact aluminum horizontal roller window, where the sash slides side to side rather than lifting up. It comes in 2-lite and 3-lite configurations on a heavy-duty extruded aluminum frame about 2 inches deep, riding on adjustable brass rollers. Armor Pro installs the HR4010A on new-construction residential projects outside the HVHZ where a builder wants a smooth-sliding, value-priced window.

No, the HR4010A is a non-impact horizontal roller, and the whole Scout Aluminum line is non-impact, so it is not approved for the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone in Miami-Dade or Broward. It's built for new-construction projects in non-HVHZ jurisdictions where impact glazing isn't required by code. If your opening needs real hurricane impact protection, we'd point you to one of PGT's impact lines such as WinGuard and confirm the right product for your area at quote.

The HR4010A is offered as a 2-lite XO/OX from about 19.75 by 16 inches up to 74 by 72 inches, and as 3-lite XOX units in a 1/4-1/2-1/4 layout up to 120 by 63 inches or a 1/3-1/3-1/3 layout up to 90 by 63 inches. Every configuration carries a 50 psf positive / 50 psf negative design pressure. We'll match the 2-lite or 3-lite layout to your opening and confirm the design pressure fits your non-HVHZ code when we quote.

The HR4010A offers Energy Shield and Energy Shield Max Low-E glass on a 1/2-inch insulated glass unit, with U-factors from 0.58 to 0.67 and SHGC from 0.22 to 0.28 depending on package and grids. Argon-filled versions reach the lower 0.58-0.61 U-factor end, and Energy Shield Max packages bring SHGC down to about 0.22-0.24 for stronger solar control. For South Florida sun we'll usually recommend an argon Energy Shield Max buildup to limit heat gain.

The HR4010A is available in two standard finishes, White and Bronze, consistent with the value-tier Scout line. It rides on adjustable brass rollers and comes with a traditional sweep lock as standard, with a jamb lock offered as an option. Grids are available as a 1-inch flat/flat or a 13/16-inch grid between the glass, and we'll match the look to the other Scout windows in the home.

There's no flat price because installed cost depends on whether it's a 2-lite or 3-lite unit, the overall size up to 120 inches wide, the glass package and grids, the White or Bronze finish, the lock hardware you choose, and the condition of the opening. Armor Pro gives a free, no-obligation estimate; we'll measure the opening and price the HR4010A for your new-construction project.

No — Scout is PGT's non-impact aluminum value line, so it can't be installed in the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone and doesn't carry impact certification. It's a builder-grade window built for new-construction homes outside the HVHZ where the code does not require impact glazing. If your address falls inside Miami-Dade or Broward, or you want storm protection regardless of jurisdiction, the answer is the impact-rated WinGuard line, not Scout.

Scout is deliberately narrow — four window styles only: single hung, horizontal roller, fixed picture, and architectural shapes, in white or bronze. There's no casement, awning, or sliding door in the Scout line, so a Scout-spec house pulls those openings from a different line. We treat it as a spec-and-builder option: pick the operation style and a standard finish, and it goes in.

PGT has built impact windows and doors in Venice, Florida since 1980 and is the largest impact-window and -door manufacturer in the country. It was the first company to develop impact-resistant products that met Miami-Dade County's hurricane code after Hurricane Andrew, and the line is engineered specifically for Florida conditions. PGT is now part of the MITER Brands family, alongside WinDoor, ECO, and NewSouth, but the products are still made in Florida under the PGT name.
