Frequently Asked Questions

The 176 HR Bertha is Eastern Architectural Systems' HVHZ-rated vinyl horizontal roller impact window, where the sash slides side to side rather than up and down. We install it in XO, OX, and XOX configurations, which makes it a strong fit for wider residential openings like bedrooms, living rooms, and over countertops. Because it's part of EAS's flagship Bertha line, it carries a lifetime warranty on both the vinyl frame and the insulated glass.

The three-lite XOX configurations of the 176 HR Bertha go up to 111 inches wide and 63 inches tall, which lets us cover very wide openings with one window instead of mulling two units together. The two-lite XO and OX roller maxes out at 74 by 63 inches. We measure your rough opening and confirm the buildable size with EAS before ordering.

The standard 176 HR Bertha roller carries design pressures up to +70/-85 psf on the two-lite, and the optional SentryGlas Plus glazing upgrade extends the rating all the way to +120/-120 psf. It is LMI impact-rated and HVHZ-approved for Miami-Dade and Broward installations. We'll confirm the exact design pressure your jurisdiction and wind zone require at the time of quote.

The 176 HR Bertha uses a 1-inch insulated laminated glass unit with argon, and the Low-E coatings range from a U-factor of 0.28 up to 0.45 with SHGC from 0.14 to 0.56 depending on the package. For Florida heat, the E340 Low-E laminated option gets the SHGC down to 0.14, while the gray E366 laminated package reaches a 0.28 U-factor. We help you match the glass package to your sun exposure and energy goals.

The 176 HR Bertha is available in White as standard, plus Desert Sand and a Bronze exterior with white interior, and the Bertha line also offers a Black Laminate exterior finish. For grids you can choose Grids Between Glass, Simulated Divided Light, or Colonial, Prairie, and Perimeter patterns. We'll show you the finish and grid combinations when we put together your quote.

Installed price depends on the size of the opening, whether you choose the standard or SentryGlas Plus glass package, the finish, and the condition of the existing frame, so we don't quote a flat number. A wide three-lite XOX with the upgraded glazing will run more than a two-lite XO in standard glass. Armor Pro provides a free, no-obligation estimate after measuring your opening.

The 176 Bertha is EAS's flagship vinyl impact window line, built specifically for Florida's hurricane zone on a 3-1/4 inch fusion-welded frame with a 0.070 inch wall thickness. It comes in three operation styles, single hung, horizontal roller, and picture, which cover most of the window openings on a typical home. It is the EAS vinyl line to reach for when you want the highest performance and the strongest warranty in their vinyl catalog.

The single-hung is rated up to 120 psf design pressure, the highest in the EAS vinyl portfolio. The horizontal roller and picture models run lower at their base spec but can be uprated to the same 120 psf with an optional SentryGlas Plus (SGP) glass interlayer, which is stiffer than standard laminated glass. Design pressure is what determines how much wind load a window can take, and the right rating depends on your opening's size and exposure, which we confirm on the quote.

Eastern Architectural Systems (EAS) is a Florida manufacturer based in Fort Myers, with roots in the Eastern Metal Supply family. It builds vinyl and aluminum impact-resistant windows and doors for the Florida residential market, and is the maker of the Bertha impact line. EAS has been part of Cornerstone Building Brands since late 2023, though it still operates under its own brand. We install and service EAS products throughout South Florida.
