Frequently Asked Questions

The 176 Picture Bertha is Eastern Architectural Systems' HVHZ-rated fixed (non-operable) vinyl impact window, built for panoramic views in coastal homes. Because it has no operating hardware and the whole opening is glass, we install it where you want maximum light and an unobstructed view rather than ventilation, often paired alongside operable windows. It's part of EAS's flagship Bertha line with a lifetime warranty on both the vinyl frame and the insulated glass.

The 176 Picture Bertha goes up to 72 inches wide by 84 inches tall as a single fixed unit, which is large enough for a true picture-window view. Since it's non-operable, it can hold that bigger glass area while still meeting impact requirements. We measure your opening and confirm the buildable size with EAS before we order.

Yes. The 176 Picture Bertha is LMI impact-rated and HVHZ-approved for Miami-Dade and Broward, carrying a design pressure of +80/-80 psf in its standard build. The optional SentryGlas Plus glazing upgrade extends the rating up to +120/-120 psf for higher wind-load openings. We'll confirm the design pressure your specific opening and jurisdiction require at quote.

With the right Low-E laminated package, the 176 Picture Bertha reaches a U-factor as low as 0.26 and a SHGC as low as 0.15 using the E340 laminated glass, which rejects a lot of Florida solar heat. The E366 Solargray laminated option pairs a 0.26 U-factor with a lower 0.22 SHGC for glare control. Because picture windows are usually the largest glass area in a room, we often recommend a higher-performing package here.

The 176 Picture Bertha is available in Fin, Flange, and Box frame styles so it can fit different wall conditions and new-construction or replacement openings. Finishes include White as standard, Desert Sand, and a Bronze exterior with white interior, with a Black Laminate exterior available across the Bertha line. Grids are offered as Grids Between Glass, Simulated Divided Light, or Colonial, Prairie, and Perimeter patterns.

Installed price depends on the size of the glass area, the glass package you choose, the frame style and finish, and the condition of the existing opening, so we don't quote a flat rate. A large 72-by-84 picture window with the SentryGlas Plus upgrade will cost more than a smaller standard-glass unit. Armor Pro provides a free, no-obligation estimate after measuring your opening.

The 176 Bertha is EAS's flagship vinyl impact window line, built specifically for Florida's hurricane zone on a 3-1/4 inch fusion-welded frame with a 0.070 inch wall thickness. It comes in three operation styles, single hung, horizontal roller, and picture, which cover most of the window openings on a typical home. It is the EAS vinyl line to reach for when you want the highest performance and the strongest warranty in their vinyl catalog.

The single-hung is rated up to 120 psf design pressure, the highest in the EAS vinyl portfolio. The horizontal roller and picture models run lower at their base spec but can be uprated to the same 120 psf with an optional SentryGlas Plus (SGP) glass interlayer, which is stiffer than standard laminated glass. Design pressure is what determines how much wind load a window can take, and the right rating depends on your opening's size and exposure, which we confirm on the quote.

Eastern Architectural Systems (EAS) is a Florida manufacturer based in Fort Myers, with roots in the Eastern Metal Supply family. It builds vinyl and aluminum impact-resistant windows and doors for the Florida residential market, and is the maker of the Bertha impact line. EAS has been part of Cornerstone Building Brands since late 2023, though it still operates under its own brand. We install and service EAS products throughout South Florida.
