Frequently Asked Questions

The AR4020A is PGT's Scout value-tier non-impact aluminum architectural-shape window, made for accent openings rather than everyday operating windows. It comes in half circle, eyebrow, half eyebrow, arch, and trapezoid shapes to top off or accent a wall. Armor Pro installs the AR4020A on new-construction residential projects in non-HVHZ areas where a builder wants a decorative shape over a door or picture window at a value price point.

No, the AR4020A is a non-impact architectural-shape window, and the entire Scout Aluminum line is non-impact, so it is not approved for the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone in Miami-Dade or Broward. It's intended for new-construction projects outside HVHZ jurisdictions where impact glazing isn't required. If your opening needs true hurricane impact protection, we'd steer you to one of PGT's impact lines such as WinGuard instead and confirm the right product for your jurisdiction at quote.

The AR4020A is offered as a half circle, eyebrow, half eyebrow, arch, or trapezoid, all built on a 2-inch aluminum frame as fixed architectural accents. It carries a 50 psf positive / 50 psf negative design pressure. We'll confirm the shape and the design pressure suit your opening and local non-HVHZ code when we quote.

The AR4020A offers Energy Shield and Energy Shield Max Low-E glass on a 3/4-inch insulated glass unit, with U-factors from 0.41 to 0.49 and SHGC from 0.24 to 0.37 depending on package and grids. Argon-filled versions reach the lower 0.41-0.44 U-factor end, and Energy Shield Max trims SHGC down toward 0.24-0.26 for stronger solar control. For South Florida sun we'll usually recommend an argon Energy Shield Max package to cut heat gain even on an accent shape.

The AR4020A comes in two standard finishes, White and Bronze, in keeping with Scout's value-tier line. Grids are offered as a 1-inch flat/flat grid or a 13/16-inch grid between the glass to match the look of the windows it accents. We'll coordinate the finish and grid so the architectural shape matches the Scout single hungs, rollers, or picture windows in the same wall.

There's no flat price because installed cost depends on the shape (half circle, eyebrow, arch, trapezoid, and so on), the overall size, the glass package and grids you choose, the White or Bronze finish, and the condition of the opening. As a fixed accent over other units, it's often quoted alongside the windows below it. Armor Pro gives a free, no-obligation estimate; we'll measure the opening and price the AR4020A for your project.

No — Scout is PGT's non-impact aluminum value line, so it can't be installed in the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone and doesn't carry impact certification. It's a builder-grade window built for new-construction homes outside the HVHZ where the code does not require impact glazing. If your address falls inside Miami-Dade or Broward, or you want storm protection regardless of jurisdiction, the answer is the impact-rated WinGuard line, not Scout.

Scout is deliberately narrow — four window styles only: single hung, horizontal roller, fixed picture, and architectural shapes, in white or bronze. There's no casement, awning, or sliding door in the Scout line, so a Scout-spec house pulls those openings from a different line. We treat it as a spec-and-builder option: pick the operation style and a standard finish, and it goes in.

PGT has built impact windows and doors in Venice, Florida since 1980 and is the largest impact-window and -door manufacturer in the country. It was the first company to develop impact-resistant products that met Miami-Dade County's hurricane code after Hurricane Andrew, and the line is engineered specifically for Florida conditions. PGT is now part of the MITER Brands family, alongside WinDoor, ECO, and NewSouth, but the products are still made in Florida under the PGT name.
