Frequently Asked Questions
The ES-5500/5600 is the aluminum impact project-out (awning) window in ES Windows's Elite line. An awning window is hinged at the top and cranks outward from the bottom, so it can stay open for ventilation even during light rain and seals tightly when closed. We install the ES-5500/5600 on South Florida homes where you want hurricane-rated airflow over a sink, in a bathroom, or paired with fixed units, all with HVHZ certification at Elite's mid-tier pricing.
Yes. The ES-5500/5600 is part of the Elite aluminum impact line, which carries current Florida Building Code 2023 (8th edition) Miami-Dade NOAs and is approved for the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone covering Miami-Dade and Broward counties. As your installer, we confirm the specific NOA and that it is current at the time of your permit so the window meets your jurisdiction's requirements.
The ES-5500/5600 installs from a minimum of 26.5 by 29.75 inches up to a maximum of 48 by 59 inches, and it is rated to a design pressure of +90/-90 psf, which is the wind load the unit is built to resist. That +/-90 psf rating is among the strongest in the Elite residential line. Because the design pressure your opening must reach depends on its size and wind exposure, we confirm the rating your specific window needs at quote.
The ES-5500/5600 is offered in three standard glass make-ups: a G1 package of 5/16-inch laminated PVB, a G2 package of 1/2-inch laminated PVB, and a G3 package of 7/16-inch laminated SentryGlas. The G1 and G2 are large-missile-impact (SMI) rated and the G3 SentryGlas package is the large-missile-impact (LMI) option for the toughest exposures. The glass can also be painted, serigraphed, or digitally printed for privacy or a decorative look, and we will recommend the package that fits your opening and budget.
The ES-5500/5600 uses structural aluminum framing in 6063-T6 and 6005-T5 alloys, both offered as standard, which gives the awning its strength and slim sightlines. Muntins (grids) are available if you want a divided-light appearance. As your installer, we will go over the frame and grid options so the project-out window matches the rest of your Elite windows.
Installed pricing for the ES-5500/5600 depends on the size of the opening, the glass package (G1, G2, or G3), any decorative glass or grid options, and the condition of the existing opening, so there is no single price. The Elite line is positioned to deliver HVHZ-rated Miami-Dade certification without architectural-grade pricing, and as your installer Armor Pro handles measurement, permitting, and code-compliant installation. Contact us for a free, no-obligation estimate and we will measure your openings and quote the ES-5500/5600.
Yes. Elite is ES Windows's mid-tier aluminum impact line and carries current Miami-Dade NOAs filed under the 2023 (8th edition) Florida Building Code across its operation range, so it is HVHZ-eligible in Miami-Dade and Broward. We confirm the exact approval and design pressure for each opening before ordering.
Elite spans the full standard residential range: casement, single hung, fixed picture, sliding window, French door, and sliding glass door, all under one certified system. That breadth is why it shows up on so many quotes; a whole house can be specified on a single line. What it does not include are the architectural pivot and folding doors, which live in the Prestige tier.
ES Windows is the residential and light-commercial fenestration brand of Tecnoglass Inc. (NYSE: TGLS), and the products are manufactured at the company's complex in Barranquilla, Colombia. What makes the brand unusual is that the parent makes its own architectural glass and aluminum extrusions and then assembles the finished windows and doors in-house, so a single company stands behind the whole assembly rather than buying glass and frames from outside suppliers. We install and service ES Windows products throughout South Florida.
