Overview

About the WinGuard Vinyl Series

WinGuard Vinyl is the line Armor Pro installs most often on standard South Florida residential replacements, for a straightforward reason: it is impact-rated for the HVHZ, it costs less installed than the aluminum line, and the welded vinyl frame shrugs off salt air without ever needing paint. For the typical opening (a single hung in a bedroom, a roller off the kitchen, a picture unit in the living room) vinyl carries the load the code asks for while running tighter thermally than aluminum, so a homeowner replacing a whole house in Miami-Dade or Broward gets storm protection and a lower energy bill in one product.

The line spans nine operation styles on a common 3-1/2 inch welded frame, all glazed with PGT's Diamond Glass laminated impact glass, so single hung through sliding and French door mull cleanly into all-vinyl elevations without switching systems. As the best-selling impact vinyl line in the country it also carries a deep approval record, which keeps permitting predictable.

Where WinGuard Vinyl reaches its limit is span and design pressure. Vinyl frames flex sooner than aluminum, so very wide sliding doors, tall two-story glass, and the highest-pressure coastal exposures belong on WinGuard Aluminum instead. Armor Pro specs vinyl for the bulk of a typical home and switches to aluminum for the oversized or highest-load openings, often mixing both on the same project under the WinGuard name.

Frequently Asked Questions

WinGuard Vinyl is the vinyl version of PGT's flagship impact line and the best-selling impact vinyl in the country. It carries the same Diamond Glass laminated impact glazing and HVHZ approvals as the aluminum line, but on a 3-1/2 inch welded vinyl frame that insulates better and never needs paint. The difference comes down to span and pressure: aluminum handles the oversized and highest-load openings, vinyl handles the rest at a lower installed cost. Many projects use both under the WinGuard name.

Yes. WinGuard Vinyl is large-missile impact-rated and eligible for Miami-Dade and Broward HVHZ installation, carrying Miami-Dade Notices of Acceptance across its operation styles. It's the line we install most often on standard South Florida residential replacements because it clears the code, costs less than aluminum, and runs tighter thermally. The exact wind rating depends on the size and configuration, which we confirm on the quote.

The line spans nine styles on one common 3-1/2 inch welded frame: single hung, double hung, horizontal roller, picture, casement, awning, architectural shapes, sliding glass door, and French door. Because they all share the frame, hardware, and color palette, single hung through sliding door mull cleanly into all-vinyl elevations without switching systems. We pick the mix of styles that fits how each room is used.

The widest single unit is the HR5510 horizontal roller in its 3-lite XOX configuration, which reaches 120 inches wide — useful for a back-of-house opening or a pass-through over a kitchen counter. For patio openings, the SGD5570 sliding door runs up to eight panels and 40 feet of expansion, with a 4-track configuration that reaches the high end of vinyl design pressures. Beyond those limits the answer is usually WinGuard Aluminum. We confirm the maximum for your opening on the quote.

Generally yes. A multi-chamber vinyl frame insulates far better than aluminum, so for the same Low-E glass package WinGuard Vinyl posts better U-factors and tends to qualify for ENERGY STAR — which is part of why so many recent Florida retrofits go vinyl. You still get the same laminated impact protection. We'll show you the energy numbers for the glass package and weigh them against the sightlines and span limits if you're choosing between vinyl and aluminum.
