Frequently Asked Questions

The SS 3500 is PGT's aluminum impact storefront window for commercial first- and second-floor envelopes, built on a 1.75 by 5 inch aluminum frame. It's the standard glazing in PGT's Commercial storefront system and coordinates with the SS 3520 SLIMFRONT window and the SE 3550 entrance door. Armor Pro installs the SS 3500 on mid-rise condo, hotel, school, hospital, and office ground- and second-floor walls where the building skin and entrance need to stay under a single PGT approval.

Yes, the SS 3500 carries LMI (Large Missile Impact) certification and is HVHZ-approved under Florida Product Approval FL46559, so it's cleared for High-Velocity Hurricane Zone installations in Miami-Dade and Broward. Its laminated impact glass is tested to resist wind-borne debris during a hurricane. We'll confirm the approved configuration and the design pressure for your specific opening at quote.

The SS 3500 is rated for a single storefront window bay up to 144 by 144 inches on its 5-inch aluminum frame, with 90 psf positive and 120 psf negative design pressure and LMI impact certification. For taller two-story openings beyond 144 inches in height, PGT offers the SS 3520 SLIMFRONT variant, which reaches 180-inch panel heights. We'll lay out the bay sizes and mullion spacing that fit your wall and confirm the rating when we quote.

The SS 3500 holds a U-factor of 1.04 across its packages, with SHGC ranging from about 0.30 on a tinted SC Solargray or Graylite II buildup up to 0.61 on clear glass, visible transmittance up to 0.71, and a condensation resistance of 15. It uses a 9/16-inch laminated or 1-3/16-inch laminated insulating glass makeup, with aluminum-with-steel-reinforcement framing for the larger spans. For South Florida sun we typically recommend a lower-SHGC tint such as Solargray, Solarbronze, or Graylite II to limit heat gain, and we'll walk you through the daylight tradeoff.

The SS 3500 comes in standard Black, Bronze, Clear Anodized, and White finishes, with custom colors available to match the facade. Grid options include a 1-inch flat/flat grid, a 13/16-inch contemporary SDL, a 5/8-inch grid between glass, a 2-inch flat, or a 1-inch flat ogee, depending on the glass package. We'll coordinate the finish and grid with the SS 3520 windows and SE 3550 door so the whole storefront reads as one system.

There's no flat price because installed cost depends on the bay size up to 144 by 144 inches, the number of bays, the glass package and tint, the finish and grids, and the condition and substrate of the existing opening. Mullion spacing and whether the storefront ties into an SE 3550 entrance also factor in. Armor Pro gives a free, no-obligation estimate; we'll measure the envelope and price the SS 3500 storefront for your project.

PGT Commercial is an aluminum impact storefront system, not a residential window line. It's a coordinated set — two storefront windows (the SS 3500 and the slimmer-sightline SS 3520 SLIMFRONT) and a matching SE 3550 entrance door — all on a shared 1.75 by 5 inch aluminum frame. It's sized for the first- and second-floor envelopes of mid-rise condos, hotels, schools, and offices, so a building's lower-floor glazing and doors come from one Florida-approved assembly under one warranty.

Storefront is a heavier, fixed-glazed aluminum framing system built for the larger spans and foot-traffic doors of commercial ground floors, where a residential operable window would run out of span or rating. The PGT Commercial windows are fixed (non-operable) and the SE 3550 is a pedestrian entrance door, all designed to meet at the mullion for a continuous-sightline elevation. We use this system for light-commercial work rather than houses.

PGT has built impact windows and doors in Venice, Florida since 1980 and is the largest impact-window and -door manufacturer in the country. It was the first company to develop impact-resistant products that met Miami-Dade County's hurricane code after Hurricane Andrew, and the line is engineered specifically for Florida conditions. PGT is now part of the MITER Brands family, alongside WinDoor, ECO, and NewSouth, but the products are still made in Florida under the PGT name.
