Frequently Asked Questions

The Vinyl Clipped Tube Mullion is PGT's vinyl version of its cross-brand structural mullion, the member that ties two or more window units together into a single mulled opening. It comes in 1X, 2X, and Bay configurations, so it can join a pair of windows or form a multi-unit bay. Armor Pro uses it when a vinyl-window opening is wide enough to need a structural mullion between units rather than separate framed openings.

The Vinyl Clipped Tube Mullion is designed to work with PGT's vinyl window lines, specifically WinGuard Vinyl and EnergyVue Vinyl. It lets two or more of those units be mulled together into one structural opening. For aluminum-framed units, PGT offers a separate Aluminum Clipped Tube Mullion instead, and we'll specify the right one for the windows you're installing.

Yes, the Vinyl Clipped Tube Mullion is LMI (Large Missile Impact) rated and HVHZ-approved under Miami-Dade NOA 23-0913.05 for High-Velocity Hurricane Zone installations in Miami-Dade and Broward. A mulled impact opening is only as strong as the mullion holding it together, so this keeps the whole assembly within its impact approval. We'll confirm the NOA applies to your exact window combination at quote.

Yes. In addition to its Miami-Dade NOA 23-0913.05 for HVHZ work, the Vinyl Clipped Tube Mullion carries a separate Florida Product Approval that covers vinyl mullion installations outside HVHZ jurisdictions. That means we can use it to mull WinGuard Vinyl or EnergyVue Vinyl units in non-HVHZ counties as well. We'll cite the approval that applies to your jurisdiction when we quote.

The Vinyl Clipped Tube Mullion is offered in 1X, 2X, and Bay configurations, which lets it join units in a straight run or form an angled bay window arrangement. It's a structural member rather than a glazed unit, so it carries no separate glass or energy rating on its own; the windows it mulls together carry those. Armor Pro selects the configuration based on how many WinGuard Vinyl or EnergyVue Vinyl units you're combining and the geometry of the opening.

A mullion is a component used when two or more vinyl units are combined into one opening, so its cost is part of the overall mulled-window installation rather than a standalone price. The total depends on the windows being joined, how many units and what configuration (1X, 2X, or Bay), and the opening itself. Armor Pro gives a free, no-obligation estimate; when we quote a WinGuard Vinyl or EnergyVue Vinyl opening that needs mulling, we'll include the Vinyl Clipped Tube Mullion in the price.

PGT Commercial is an aluminum impact storefront system, not a residential window line. It's a coordinated set — two storefront windows (the SS 3500 and the slimmer-sightline SS 3520 SLIMFRONT) and a matching SE 3550 entrance door — all on a shared 1.75 by 5 inch aluminum frame. It's sized for the first- and second-floor envelopes of mid-rise condos, hotels, schools, and offices, so a building's lower-floor glazing and doors come from one Florida-approved assembly under one warranty.

Storefront is a heavier, fixed-glazed aluminum framing system built for the larger spans and foot-traffic doors of commercial ground floors, where a residential operable window would run out of span or rating. The PGT Commercial windows are fixed (non-operable) and the SE 3550 is a pedestrian entrance door, all designed to meet at the mullion for a continuous-sightline elevation. We use this system for light-commercial work rather than houses.

PGT has built impact windows and doors in Venice, Florida since 1980 and is the largest impact-window and -door manufacturer in the country. It was the first company to develop impact-resistant products that met Miami-Dade County's hurricane code after Hurricane Andrew, and the line is engineered specifically for Florida conditions. PGT is now part of the MITER Brands family, alongside WinDoor, ECO, and NewSouth, but the products are still made in Florida under the PGT name.
