PGT EnergyVue Vinyl Preferred French Door FD5455

PGT's non-impact vinyl line with the best thermal performance in the PGT residential catalog.

Non-impact vinyl French door, the non-impact counterpart of the WinGuard FD5555 for inland residential patio installations.

HVHZ Approved Design Pressure +70/-70 psf Florida Made in Florida

Impact protection, built for South Florida

The FD5455 is EnergyVue's vinyl French door, the non-impact counterpart to the WinGuard FD5555 for inland patios and courtyards. It brings EnergyVue's thermal performance and the welded-vinyl, low-maintenance frame to a hinged door, matching the look of an EnergyVue window project on the same patio wall.

Armor Pro installs the FD5455 on non-HVHZ addresses where the driver is energy and appearance rather than storm rating. It is not an impact door, so any opening that needs a Notice of Acceptance moves to the WinGuard FD5555 in vinyl or the FD160A in aluminum.

Frequently Asked Questions

The FD5455 is PGT's EnergyVue Preferred non-impact vinyl French door, a hinged patio door built on a welded, low-maintenance vinyl frame with a 4-9/16-inch frame depth. It brings EnergyVue's thermal performance to a door that matches the look of an EnergyVue window project on the same patio wall. We install it on inland, non-HVHZ patios and courtyards where energy and appearance drive the choice rather than storm rating.

No, the FD5455 is a non-impact door, so it is not approved for the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone. It carries Miami-Dade NOA 23-0724.01 (valid through January 23, 2029) for its tested wind pressures and anchoring, but that does not make it impact-rated. For any opening that needs hurricane protection or a Notice of Acceptance for the HVHZ, we move you to the WinGuard FD5555 in vinyl or the FD160A in aluminum, and we'll confirm which your address requires.

The FD5455 comes as a single door (X) from 20 by 74 inches up to 38.75 by 96 inches, a double door (XX) up to 76 by 96 inches, and as sidelite or transom (O) units up to 40 by 111 inches. All configurations carry a design pressure of +70/-70 psf. We'll lay out the door, sidelites, and transoms to fit your opening and confirm sizing at quote.

With insulated Low-E glass the FD5455 ranges from a U-factor of 0.29 to 0.34 with an SHGC of 0.14 to 0.24, depending on glass package. The Argon/Energy Shield Max package reaches U-factor 0.31 with SHGC as low as 0.14 for strong solar-heat control on a sunny patio. We'll match the glass package to your exposure and energy goals when we quote.

The FD5455 comes standard with a standard handle and offers a curved handle or a contemporary handle upgrade to match your hardware style. Frame finishes include White, Beige, Bronze, and Black, plus two-tone Bronze-exterior/White-interior and Black-exterior/White-interior, and you can add 7/8-inch Traditional Simulated Divided Lite grids or 9/16-inch, 13/16-inch, or 1-inch grids between the glass. We'll coordinate the finish with the rest of your EnergyVue project.

There is no flat price on the FD5455 because installed cost depends on whether it is a single, double, or sidelite/transom layout, the glass package, the handle choice, and the condition of the opening. As a non-impact door it generally costs less than the impact-rated WinGuard FD5555 or aluminum FD160A. Armor Pro gives a free, no-obligation estimate after we measure your patio opening.

No — EnergyVue is a non-impact vinyl line, so it cannot be installed in the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone of Miami-Dade and Broward, and it isn't the right choice for any opening that needs a Notice of Acceptance. It belongs on inland Florida addresses where the building code does not require laminated impact glazing. If you're inside the HVHZ or you want storm protection regardless of jurisdiction, the impact counterpart is WinGuard Vinyl, which uses the same frame.

EnergyVue is the line for projects driven by the energy bill rather than the wind map. It posts the best thermal performance in PGT's residential catalog — U-factors from about 0.27 to 0.32 with the EnergyShield Max Low-E package — which is low enough to move a utility bill and clear ENERGY STAR for the climate zone. The welded vinyl frame also resists salt-air corrosion and never needs repainting. We spec it for inland, energy-focused homes where impact glass isn't required by code.

PGT has built impact windows and doors in Venice, Florida since 1980 and is the largest impact-window and -door manufacturer in the country. It was the first company to develop impact-resistant products that met Miami-Dade County's hurricane code after Hurricane Andrew, and the line is engineered specifically for Florida conditions. PGT is now part of the MITER Brands family, alongside WinDoor, ECO, and NewSouth, but the products are still made in Florida under the PGT name.
