Frequently Asked Questions

No. The Comfort Shield sliding glass door is a non-impact vinyl patio door, so it is not approved for the High Velocity Hurricane Zone (Miami-Dade and Broward) and is best suited to inland Florida lanai and patio openings where the code does not require impact glazing. If your project needs an impact-rated slider, ask us about CWS's impact lines instead. We'll confirm what your address requires before we quote.

The Comfort Shield slider is offered as a 2-panel OX or XO door sized up to 95.5 by 95.5 inches, with a minimum size of 46.5 by 70.5 inches. It carries an AAMA Performance Class of LC35 to LC50. We measure your rough opening and confirm the exact size and rating at quote.

With dual-pane Low-E 270 insulating glass and argon, the Comfort Shield slider achieves a U-factor around 0.27 and an SHGC as low as 0.19, with door ratings ranging U 0.27-0.40 and SHGC 0.19-0.49. Stepping up to triple-pane Low-E 270 with argon improves the U-factor to about 0.22. We'll help you pick the glass package that fits your comfort and energy goals.

Yes. The Comfort Shield slider offers optional between-the-glass blinds (white) for integrated shading with no exposed cords or slats to dust. We install the door with the blinds factory-sealed inside the insulating glass unit. Let us know at quote if you want this option added.

The Comfort Shield slider comes in White (standard), Almond, and Fossil vinyl frame finishes, with a color-matched corrosion-resistant sliding handle to match. It also includes an integrated flush footbolt for secondary venting and locking positions. We'll confirm the color match across your full window-and-door order.

Installed price depends on the door size, the glass package you choose, and the condition of the opening, so we don't quote a flat rate. The Comfort Shield slider can also be ordered factory-assembled or as a knock-down kit, which affects handling on site. Armor Pro provides a free, no-obligation estimate after we measure your opening.

No. Comfort Shield is CWS's vinyl non-impact line, built for inland Florida residential and light-commercial projects where the building code does not require impact glazing. It does not carry a Miami-Dade NOA and is not for coastal HVHZ exposure. If your address needs impact glass, we'd move you to StormStrong for entry coastal impact or Hurricane Guard for HVHZ.

Comfort Shield is the broadest CWS non-impact line, with seven configurations: single-hung, double-hung, casement, awning, sliding window, picture window, and a sliding patio door. That range lets us handle most of an inland home from one line. To see how the styles look together on your elevation, you can use our Window and Door Designer and Visualizer.

CWS (Custom Window Systems) is a Florida manufacturer founded in 1986 and headquartered in Ocala, with additional plants in Miami, Medley, and Jacksonville totaling more than 700,000 square feet. Because the line is engineered and built in Florida around the state's hurricane code, the products are designed for our climate rather than adapted to it. We install and service CWS products throughout South Florida.
