Overview

About the Comfort Shield Series

Comfort Shield is CWS's vinyl non-impact line, the inland option for Florida residential and light-commercial projects where the building code does not require impact glazing. Seven configurations cover the full range (single-hung, double-hung, casement, awning, sliding window, picture window, and a sliding patio door), with AAMA Performance Class and Grade ratings spanning R20 through CW50, so the same line stretches from standard residential up into light-commercial window classes.

Armor Pro specs Comfort Shield on inland and non-HVHZ addresses where the driver is price and energy rather than storm rating. It is not an impact line, so any opening that needs impact glass moves up the CWS range: StormStrong for entry-level coastal impact, Hurricane Guard for HVHZ. Comfort Shield is the non-impact vinyl choice when the project simply needs a solid, code-compliant window at the budget end.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Comfort Shield is CWS's vinyl non-impact line, built for inland Florida residential and light-commercial projects where the building code does not require impact glazing. It does not carry a Miami-Dade NOA and is not for coastal HVHZ exposure. If your address needs impact glass, we'd move you to StormStrong for entry coastal impact or Hurricane Guard for HVHZ.

Comfort Shield is the broadest CWS non-impact line, with seven configurations: single-hung, double-hung, casement, awning, sliding window, picture window, and a sliding patio door. That range lets us handle most of an inland home from one line. To see how the styles look together on your elevation, you can use our Window and Door Designer and Visualizer.

Comfort Shield uses multichambered vinyl frames with Low-E insulated glass and optional triple-pane and foam-filled frame upgrades, and CWS markets strong air-infiltration and U-factor numbers across the line. For an inland project where the driver is energy and price rather than storm rating, that's a competitive package. We confirm the specific glass and frame options and their ratings when we build the quote.

Comfort Shield is rated under the AAMA Performance Class and Grade system, spanning R20 through CW50 depending on the style, where R is residential, LC is light commercial, and CW is commercial window. Those classes describe structural and air-water performance, which is the relevant metric for a non-impact window. Because it is not an impact line, the choice comes down to class, energy, and price rather than a design pressure for storm protection.

Comfort Shield uses a fade-resistant vinyl with the color formulated throughout the material, so minor scratches stay less visible and the frame doesn't need painting or refinishing. Vinyl handles inland Florida heat well and is low-maintenance. For salt-spray coastal exposure we'd usually point you toward an aluminum line instead, which we can compare side by side.
