About the Reserve Series

Reserve is Pella's premium tier, the clad-wood and all-wood line for high-end architectural projects, and in 2025 it absorbed the former Architect Series. It comes in three forms: Traditional, Contemporary, and Impact-Resistant. For Armor Pro the one that matters in the hurricane zone is the Impact-Resistant variant, which puts HVHZ-rated impact glass in a clad-wood frame and is rated to Wind-zone 4 with Large Missile Impact D certification. That makes it the premium option for a homeowner who wants real wood interiors and storm protection in the same window.

The trade is cost and the material itself. Wood is the warmest interior a window offers and the most demanding to maintain in a salt-air, high-humidity climate, so Reserve Impact suits owners who want the look and accept the upkeep. Armor Pro specs it on architectural HVHZ residential where the budget and the design call for clad-wood; for the same protection in a lower-maintenance vinyl frame, HurricaneShield covers the opening at a lower price.

Frequently Asked Questions

Reserve comes in three forms, and only one is built for the storm. Reserve Traditional and Reserve Contemporary are premium clad-wood and all-wood windows with no impact rating, while Reserve Impact-Resistant puts HVHZ-rated impact glass in a clad-wood frame, rated to Wind-zone 4 with Large Missile Impact D for Miami-Dade and Broward. For a hurricane-zone project we spec the Impact-Resistant variant specifically; the Traditional and Contemporary versions can't be permitted at an HVHZ address.

Reserve Impact-Resistant is the clad-wood answer, an aluminum-clad exterior over a real wood interior, which is the warmest interior a window offers and the most demanding to maintain in salt air and high humidity. Most impact windows in Florida are aluminum or vinyl, which are lower-maintenance and lower-cost. Reserve Impact is the choice when the visible wood interior is part of the design and the owner accepts the upkeep; for the same HVHZ protection in a vinyl frame, HurricaneShield covers the opening for less.

Reserve is a broad premium line covering casement, awning, double-hung, single-hung, picture, and specialty-shape windows, plus in-swing, out-swing, and sliding patio doors, with Traditional leaning toward historic detailing and Contemporary toward narrow modern sightlines. The Impact-Resistant variant carries the HVHZ glass across its core operation styles. We confirm which styles are available impact-rated for your specific project.

Effectively yes. Pella folded its former Architect Series premium clad-wood marketing into Reserve in 2025, so for any current project Reserve is the active line and Architect Series is legacy naming you may still see on older specifications or tear-out documents. If your paperwork references Architect Series, the equivalent active product is Reserve Traditional or Reserve Contemporary, and we'll confirm the match when we scope the work.

Reserve Impact-Resistant sits at the top of Pella's range because it combines HVHZ impact glass with custom clad-wood construction and architectural detailing, which is a fundamentally different product than a catalog vinyl impact window. You're paying for the wood interior, the design flexibility, and the premium tier, not for stronger storm protection by itself. If hurricane code compliance is the goal rather than a wood aesthetic, HurricaneShield meets the same HVHZ requirement at a much lower price, and we'll lay out both.
