Overview

About the HurricaneShield Series

HurricaneShield is the Pella line built for Florida, and it is the one Armor Pro installs most under the Pella name. Pella makes it in Ocala through its CWS Industries subsidiary specifically for the HVHZ, so it is a vinyl impact line designed around Miami-Dade and Broward certification rather than adapted to it. The catalog covers the everyday residential openings (single hung, casement, awning, sliding, and fixed windows) plus three patio door styles including a multi-slide, all HVHZ-rated.

The frame is the part that earns its keep in the climate: extruded rigid PVC with mitered, heat-fused, fully welded corners and up to eighteen air chambers, which gives it both structural rigidity for the wind load and thermal performance for the cooling bill. The laminated impact glass adds an InsulShield Low-E coating and argon fill that blocks 99.7 percent of UV, so the same window that handles the storm also protects floors and furniture from the sun.

HurricaneShield is the Pella answer for a homeowner who wants the Pella name and a vinyl impact window certified for the hurricane zone. For a premium clad-wood look with the same HVHZ protection, the step up is Reserve Impact; for multi-family or coastal-non-HVHZ work, the commercial-grade Defender covers it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. HurricaneShield is Pella's dedicated residential vinyl impact line, built in Ocala, Florida for the HVHZ and certified for Miami-Dade and Broward across single-hung, casement, awning, sliding, and fixed windows plus hinged, sliding, and multi-slide patio doors. It carries Florida Product Approvals on each operation style. We confirm the specific approval against your opening size and configuration before ordering.

Impact windows use laminated glass with a tough interlayer that holds together when struck, so the opening stays sealed against wind and debris without shutters, meaning no plywood and no closing panels before a storm. HurricaneShield's ratings run high for vinyl, with the single-hung reaching up to 67.5 psf positive and 100 psf negative and the multi-slide patio door reaching up to roughly 80 psf. The exact rating depends on the size and configuration, which we confirm on the quote.

HurricaneShield spans single-hung, casement, awning, horizontal sliding, and fixed windows, plus hinged (French), sliding, and multi-slide patio doors, with the multi-slide reaching very large widths for a wall of glass. That breadth lets us spec a whole-home impact package from one line so everything matches. To preview how the styles look on your elevation, you can use our Window and Door Designer and Visualizer.

HurricaneShield is vinyl, built on an extruded rigid PVC frame with mitered, heat-fused, fully welded corners and up to 18 air chambers, which gives it structural rigidity for wind load and good thermal performance for the cooling bill. The laminated impact glass adds an InsulShield Low-E coating and argon fill that blocks about 99.7 percent of UV, so the same window that handles the storm also protects floors and furniture from the sun. Vinyl runs cooler thermally than aluminum and needs no painting.

Yes. The same laminated, insulated glass that resists impact also cuts outside noise and, with the Low-E coating and argon fill, reduces solar heat gain, so the storm rating doesn't come at the cost of comfort. ENERGY STAR-qualified glass packages are available. We confirm the specific glass package and its energy ratings when we build your quote.
