Frequently Asked Questions

Pella Impervia is a fiberglass window line that covers a wide range of operations: casement, awning, double-hung, single-hung, sliding (gliding), and fixed-frame direct set. That breadth lets us match the operation to each opening on the same fiberglass platform. We install Impervia across non-HVHZ South Florida residential projects where a homeowner wants fiberglass over vinyl or aluminum.

Among the Impervia configurations, the Fixed-Frame Direct Set is the largest, going up to 143.5 by 143.5 inches at a design pressure of +50/-50 psf. The operating styles are smaller: the casement vent reaches 37.5 by 79.5 inches at DP +60/-60, and the gliding window reaches 71.5 by 71.5 inches at DP +50/-50. Because the design pressure your opening needs depends on its size and wind exposure, we confirm the rating at quote and order a unit that meets it.

Impervia is offered with 1-inch argon-filled insulating glass in several Low-E packages. The SunDefense Low-E option reaches a U-factor of 0.29 with an SHGC as low as 0.19 for strong solar-heat control, while Advanced Low-E runs about U 0.30 / SHGC 0.28 and NaturalSun Low-E about U 0.30 / SHGC 0.49 for more passive solar gain. We will recommend the glass package that best fits your home's sun exposure and comfort goals.

Impervia frames are powder-coated and offered in White (standard), Brown, Black, Tan, and Morning Sky Gray, plus a dual-color option that pairs a colored exterior with a White interior. Grids are available as Grilles-Between-the-Glass in Traditional, Prairie, Top Row, and custom equally divided patterns. We will go over the finish and grid options so the windows match your home's look.

The Impervia line carries Pella's Universal Design framing for ergonomic and accessibility-focused projects, and its hardware options include a Fold-Away Crank, an Easy-Slide Operator on casement and awning units, a Unison Lock System, and an Accessibility Lock Handle. Those features make the windows easier to operate for a wide range of users. We can spec the accessibility hardware when we quote your Impervia project.

There is no single price for Impervia because installed cost depends on the size of each opening, the glass package you choose, the frame finish, and the condition of the opening. Keep in mind Impervia is a non-impact, non-HVHZ line, so it fits residential projects outside the Miami-Dade and Broward High-Velocity Hurricane Zone. Contact Armor Pro for a free, no-obligation estimate and we will measure your openings and quote the Impervia configuration that fits.

No. Impervia is Pella's fiberglass line, Florida Product Approval listed for residential work outside the HVHZ, but it is not an impact line and does not carry a Miami-Dade NOA. For any opening that needs impact glazing or an HVHZ permit, we move to HurricaneShield or Reserve Impact. Impervia is the choice when material longevity and durability, rather than hurricane certification, are what the project is after.

Fiberglass holds its shape and finish in demanding climates better than most window materials, with low maintenance and a low thermal-expansion rate, which is the durability case Pella makes for Impervia and why it's awarded for longevity. The tradeoff is cost: fiberglass typically runs above vinyl. In Florida it makes the most sense on inland and non-HVHZ homes where an owner specifically wants the fiberglass frame for durability or finish, since for storm protection you'd be looking at an impact line instead.

Pella Corporation is a family-owned national manufacturer headquartered in Pella, Iowa, founded in 1925 and now spanning more than 20 plants across the country. For the Florida hurricane market the important detail is that Pella's impact lines, HurricaneShield and Defender, are built in Ocala, Florida by Pella's CWS subsidiary, so the storm products are made in-state rather than shipped in. We install and service Pella across South Florida and handle the order, permit, and installation regardless of which plant a given product comes from.
